Community Impact: Sandy Slope Elementary Makes a Strong Debut

The U.S. Venture Foundation School Challenge continues to reward schools for promoting healthy, active lifestyles.

In its very first year participating, Sandy Slope Elementary in Appleton earned 3rd Place in the Large School Division and received a $250 award.

The school put the prize money to great use.

“We used the funds for equipment for the first-ever Sandy Slope Field Day and Family Picnic. Many staff and parents commented, ‘This was the best Field Day we have ever been a part of.’ The Kids Fun Run kicks off each school year with a focus on health and wellness and being active in the community we live in. Thank you for your commitment to providing this opportunity for kids and schools in the community.” — Charles Heurkens, Physical Education Teacher
