From Coworkers to “Hot Girl Walkers”: How a Team at Miron Construction Found Connection at the Community First Fox Cities Marathon Presented by Miron Construction

Three years ago, what started as a casual email about upcoming wellness events turned into something much bigger for our team at Miron Construction. Meredith Baciak, Miron Construction’s wellness coordinator, shared a list of wellness events Miron was supporting in the community. The Community First Fox Cities Marathon Presented by Miron Construction was on that list. We initially dismissed the event, thinking it was meant for runners and athletes. But then we reconsidered and saw it as a challenge we could take on as a team.

We started small, signing up for the Ascension 5K Run/Walk. None of us considered ourselves athletes, but we were already walking similar distances on our own, so it felt approachable, and we didn’t need to do much training. Race day came, and we had so much fun. The course is stunning with the tree-lined streets and the picturesque homes around Riverside Park in Neenah. It ended up being the perfect backdrop for a safe, entry-level event and the start of our annual hot girl walk!

A hot girl walk is a social media trend all about taking a confident, purposeful stroll, usually outdoors, that blends movement with mindfulness. Often embraced by women, it’s more than just exercise; it’s a chance to clear your mind and focus on three things: what you’re grateful for, your personal goals and your inner confidence.

While the phrase “hot girl” sounds like it’s about appearances, the true heart of the walk is feeling strong in your own skin and prioritizing both mental and physical wellbeing. It’s about owning who you are and showing up for yourself.

After an incredible experience the first year, we made it a point to do the hot girl walk for the next three years, as we realized you don’t have to be a hardcore runner to participate in the events that the Fox Cities Marathon has to offer. Fast forward to 2025, and our little group has grown. What started with four coworkers has now expanded, and this year, our friend Amber suggested we take on the Fleet Feet 10K Run/Walk, adding an extra 3.1 miles to our distance. At first, there were groans, “It’s too hard!” “I don’t want to run!” However, Amber’s enthusiasm was contagious. She encouraged us to train together and just see what happens. No one dropped out; in fact, more people joined in.

What makes this experience so special is the camaraderie. We’re more than just coworkers; we’re true friends. Whether it’s walking side by side, chatting the whole way or cheering each other on, our hot girl walk has become a tradition that strengthens our bond. Sometimes a baby or a dog joins us, and we’re hoping to recruit a few of our male colleagues this year, too.

The beauty of the Fox Cities Marathon weekend is its accessibility. After completing the 5K, we realized anyone can do it. It’s not just about fitness; it’s about connection. For us, it’s an extension of the teamwork and support we share Monday through Friday (and let’s be honest – plenty of Saturdays and Sundays, too).

We’re proud to work for a company that not only sponsors this incredible event but encourages its employees to participate. It’s a reflection of how we live, work and play in the communities we call home. So, if you’re on the fence about signing up, take it from us: you don’t have to be an athlete to join. Grab your coworkers, your friends or your family, and make it a day to remember. You might find, like we did, that the Community First Fox Cities Marathon Presented by Miron Construction is about so much more than crossing a finish line; it’s about building relationships, embracing challenges and having fun along the way.

See you on the course!
