After the Finish Line

It was a busy weekend in the Fox Cities, thanks to the annual Community First Fox Cities Marathon Presented by Miron Construction. The weekend of events brought out runners from all over, and the streets were filled with cheering spectators and volunteers. If you missed all the action, don’t worry–we’ve got you covered. Here’s a roundup of some of the best stories from the weekend. Thanks for following along, and we’ll see you next year at the Fox Cities Marathon!

The coolest kids ever

We want to shoutout Lily from Freedom! Lily has run the Guardian Kids Fun Run pretty much her entire life and she took part in the 1/4 -mile dash on Friday. Way to go Lily!

Thank you to our neighbors

We talk a lot about how awesome the neighbors and spectators along our course are, and the Philipp family in Neenah is no exception! The Philipp family was watching and cheering on runners from their home on the SCHEELS 10K route. This part of the route was still a way off from the next water station. Runners were looking a little parched, so a marathon representative asked the Philipp family if there was any way they could provide some cups of water for the 10K runners. They came back with water, Gatorade and had their own makeshift water station! Thank you for being rockstar supporters!

We’ll get you to the start line

Volunteer and race organizer Jay Stoflet was helping at the split between the 5K and 10K and noticed one 10K runner that he thought might be considering taking the shorter route. Jay told her, “No, you’re not going to give up on yourself! We are there with you and we’ll get you to the finish line. You can do this!” After seeing her a few other times along the 10K route, they celebrated together at the finish line.

Teamwork

We love the stories of teamwork that come out of marathon weekend. A mother-daughter duo signed her up for a 10K while the mother was in the hospital dealing with health issues. After running a couple of 10Ks they decided to tackle 13.1 miles and today ran the ThedaCare Half Marathon and successfully crossed the finish – together!

First-time marathoner

Audrey Lanning from Neenah celebrated completion of her first full marathon! She’s done many half marathons but after being inspired by a friend who finished the full marathon last year, she knew she had to try. She pushed through the exhaustion and overcoming the mental game to complete the Community First Fox Cities Marathon. Congratulations, Audrey!

A first-time winner

Congratulations to Seth Massot from Appleton, Wisconsin on being the first male to cross the Community First Fox Cities Marathon finish line. This was Seth’s first year running the Fox Cities Marathon and with his first-place finish – that’s a lot of firsts! Seth enjoyed the course and the beautiful weather today. His wife, Katie, completed the SCHEELS 10K this year as well.

A celebration for the whole family

We shared the story of the Langlois family from Neenah and today they celebrated crossing the finish line in the ThedaCare Half Marathon. Though the family got separated along the route, they were thrilled to celebrate together at the finish line and ring the bell!

Weekend warriors

Last weekend you could find Sarah Holzheu, her husband Christian Holzheu and Sarah’s Mike Jovanovich on the Iron Man course in the rain and this weekend they were thrilled to run the Community First Fox Cities Marathon, despite some humidity. They said they were thankful for cooperative weather and they welcomed support from spectators along the way. They both said it gave them an extra boost of energy to cross the finish line.
