Why did you cancel the Fox Cities Marathon?

Out of safety concerns for all of our participants and volunteers, we made the difficult decision to cancel the Community First Fox Cities Marathon due to a forecast that predicted thunderstorms and lightning to extend into early hours of our course. The safety of our participants, volunteers, public safety partners have always been our top priority, even when it means making difficult decisions.

Will I get my money back?

We are unable to offer refunds. However, we are offering all registered participants a $30 discount to join us at next year’s event on September 21, 2025. You will receive a discount code via email in the coming weeks to use for next year’s registration.

Can I use the $30 discount for any of the races?

The $30 discount is only valid for our Sunday events, which include the full marathon, half marathon, half marathon competitive walk and relay marathon. You can apply this discount to any of these Sunday events, no matter which one you were originally registered for this year. Please note that the discount cannot be used for the Kids Run, 5K, or 10K events.

Will I receive a refund if I purchased race insurance?

Whether you receive a refund depends on the specific terms outlined in your race insurance policy. For precise information regarding your claim, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly.

How can I get my medal?

Participants of the full, half and relay events can still earn their medal by completing their distance before October 20, 2024 in another race, or on a treadmill. Then, tell us about it so we can celebrate with you and send you the medal from this year’s Community First Fox Cities Marathon presented by Miron Construction.

What is a virtual race?

Before October 20, 2024 complete your full, half or relay leg on your own, in another race, or on a treadmill. Then, tell us about it so we can celebrate with you and send you the medal from this year’s Community First Fox Cities Marathon presented by Miron Construction.

What happens if I don’t want to participate in the virtual race?

Participation in the virtual race is optional. If you choose not to participate, you will still receive the $30 discount for next year’s event, but a medal will not be awarded without a submission.

Are there other upcoming races that we can participate in?

Several races have offered discounts for their events:

  • Milwaukee’s Lakefront Marathon is offering a $20 discount for their Full Marathon with code FOXCITIESFULL and $10 discount for their Half Marathon with code FOXCITIESHALF for their October 6th event. Register at https://www.milwaukeelakefrontmarathon.org.
  • The Wonderful Water Run in Stevens Point has offered a discount for their Half Marathon taking place September 28th. Email them at [email protected] for information.
  • Eau Claire Marathon has offered a discount for their spring of 2025 event. Save $20 off the Full Marathon with code: FoxCitiesFull and $10 off the Half Marathon with code: FoxCitiesHalf

What happens to the money from the cancelled Fox Cities Marathon?

The Community First Fox Cities Marathon is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring health, wellness and community. Registration supports expenses of preparing for and executing the events. Expenses are incurred even in the event of cancellations. After expenses are paid, profits are delivered back to the community in the form of donations to non-profits. Since 2006, donations have totaled more than $1.1 million.

What are you doing with all the finish line food from this year’s cancelled race?

All food from the finish line has gone to good use and has been donated to local food pantries.
