The Community First Fox Cities Marathon weekend of events is a great opportunity for Northeast and Central Wisconsin. It promotes health, wellness and community, which directly aligns with ThedaCare’s mission to improve the health of the communities they serve.

“We look forward to participating in the Fox Cities Marathon, and hitting the course in 2021,” said Diana Young, MD, Foot & Ankle, with ThedaCare Orthopedic Care. “With many events postponed or held virtually last year due to the pandemic, it will be encouraging to see community members coming together, safely, and participating in events that inspire health and wellness.”

ThedaCare delivers care to more than 600,000 residents in 17 counties and employs approximately 7,000 health care professionals. ThedaCare has 180 points of care, including seven hospitals.

As an organization committed to being a leader in Population Health, team members are dedicated to empowering people to live their best lives through easy access to individualized care, supporting each person’s own health and wellbeing. ThedaCare also partners with communities to understand unique needs, finding solutions together, and encouraging health awareness and action.

ThedaCare is a non-profit healthcare organization, which allows them to provide opportunities to give back to the community and continue to support healthy lifestyles. Being involved also provides support for team members who choose to participate. ThedaCare returns as the ThedaCare Half Marathon sponsor and ThedaCare Orthopedic Care Recovery Zone sponsor for 2021. ThedaCare team members also provide support to summer marathon and half marathon training runs hosted by Pacesetters of the Fox Cities as well as volunteer on race weekend to help with injury prevention and management, as well as provide expert advice when needed.

“Exercise is not only good for building muscle strength and improving cardiac health, it’s also great for the mind and spirit – something we may need now more than ever,” said Ryan Wagner, DO Sports Medicine, with ThedaCare Orthopedic Care.

He also added there is a sense of accomplishment that comes with completing exercise goals, including those offered during the Fox Cities Marathon.

“Whether you are an avid runner or training for your first race, develop a plan to help you conquer the marathon and get to the finish line safely,” said Dr. Wagner. “The most common running injuries are usually preventable so listen to your body closely. Do not ignore early warning signs of injury such as pain and decreased performance. Rest and modify your training if needed. Mental strength is just as important as physical ability. Develop a mental approach that will allow you to embrace the challenge of completing a marathon and having fun in the process.”

ThedaCare understands that patients might have delayed needed health care due to fear and anxiety about COVID-19. When early symptoms of health conditions are ignored, they can worsen quickly and lead to lasting damage. No matter your concern, there’s no need to delay – ThedaCare will relentlessly pursue and deliver outstanding care. ThedaCare is taking necessary precautions to keep patients and team members safe in all areas of care, including requiring anyone who enters facilities to wear a mask, asking patients to maintain six feet of distance from all other patients, continuing to care for COVID-19 patients at respiratory care clinics and more.

ThedaCare also offers a variety of safe care options, no matter what you need care for, or where and when you need it. Patients can connect with a provider from the comfort of your own home through virtual care options, extended appointments and more.
